Turn Out the Lights: The Fred Hoffman Gallery, a leading showcase for contemporary art in Santa Monica, abruptly closed Wednesday after losing the backing of advertising executive and art collector Jay Chiat. Hoffman declined to comment on the closure but indicated that he may move to a less expensive location. Chiat was unavailable for comment.
