George Steinbrenner has sent a letter to the National Court Reporters Assn., saying he did not mean to question the “professional competence” of a reporting company he had sued.
Steinbrenner also dropped the $1.6-million suit, which he had filed in October, 1990, charging that stenographer Philip Rizzuti had tampered with sworn depositions in the baseball commissioner’s investigation of a $40,000 payment to Howard Spira.
