SAUGUS : Officials Seize Home of Convicted Man

Federal and county law enforcement officials have seized the Saugus residence of a man who was convicted last month of growing marijuana there, the FBI announced Monday.
The April 17 seizure of the Bouquet Canyon Road home of Edward Ellis Belt, 38, was the result of a cooperative effort by the FBI, the United States marshal and the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
Belt pleaded guilty last month to a charge of growing marijuana and is scheduled to appear before a judge April 29 for a sentencing hearing, FBI officials said.
If Belt does not challenge the seizure proceedings under way in U. S. District Court in Los Angeles, the United States marshal’s office can sell the house and keep 10% of the proceeds. The balance would go to the Sheriff’s Department.
The house, which has two bedrooms and bathrooms, is valued at $270,000.
