BASEBALL DAILY REPORT : ANGELS

Today’s start against the A’s will be a homecoming of sorts for Angel right-hander Don Robinson. He spent 4 1/2 seasons with the Giants, Oakland’s cross-Bay rivals, and played at the Oakland Coliseum each spring in the teams’ annual spring exhibition series.

“The times I was here were the (1989) World Series and the Bay Series,” he said. “This is the only clubhouse in the AL I know how to get to. It feels like the Bay Series but I look around and I don’t see any Giant guys, so I know it’s for real.”

Reggie Jackson, now a member of the A’s front office and a TV analyst, gave Angel pitcher Jim Abbott a high compliment. “I picked him for my rotisserie team,” Jackson said. “He’s the best left-hander in baseball.” . . . Mark Langston (sore left hip) and Scott Bailes, on the disabled list with a strained right hip, threw without discomfort Monday. Langston is still on schedule to start Sunday against the Mariners at Anaheim Stadium. . . . Chad Curtis started Monday in center field, replacing Junior Felix. The start was Curtis’ third this season.
