Former presidential candidate Paul E. Tsongas indicated his doctors to release his medical records to an independent review panel because of admissions by his doctors they did not disclose his cancer had once recurred in 1987. Tsongas also said in a statement he would submit to outside medical testing because he plans “to be active in political affairs in the future and needs to give the public the assurance it deserves.” The ex-Massachusetts senator, the first presidential candidate to campaign as a cancer survivor, vied for the nomination on statements that he was free of cancer since undergoing a radical bone-marrow transplant in August, 1986.
