Sean Kanamori of Oxnard High School won first prize and Brian Parcel, a Buena High School senior, took second place Saturday at the Eighth Annual Educational Olympics. About 250 Ventura County high school students competed in the academic events at Ventura College.
Students competed for cash in academic categories including science, fine arts, verbal skills and languages, and in vocational fields. In one competition, students had to build cars using only bicycle parts. In another, they were asked to critique art.
Kanamori, 17, was the top winner, competing in the government and physics categories. Parcel competed in the geology and speech categories.
