ROAD WARRIORS III: Now that Bruce Springsteen has showed off his new band on “Saturday Night Live” you can stop asking, “How are the new guys?” But you’re probably still asking, “ Who are the new guys?”
Ladies and gentleman, introducing . . .
* Guitarist Shane Fontayne is best known to L.A. fans as a member of the version of Lone Justice that was the opening act for U2’s 1987 world tour. The London-born musician has also played with Mick Taylor, Steve Forbert, Billy Burnette and Mick Ronson, and most recently was a member of the band Merchants of Venus, which released its debut album last year.
* Manhattan drummer Zachary Alford toured in 1991 with the B-52’s and has played with the band Maggie’s Dream while working with his own New York power trio Bodybag. Alford played on the upcoming B-52’s album and had been lined up for its summer tour before being lured by Springsteen.
* Bassist Tommy Simms has done numerous recording sessions in Los Angeles and New York, but is based in Nashville where he has recorded with various pop and country acts, including Amy Grant.
And if you need to ask about keyboardist Roy Bittan, well, maybe you didn’t even know this was a new band anyway.
