A Stone’s Throw: Director Oliver Stone came to the Cannes Film Festival on Saturday to announce his next film. Called “Heaven and Earth,” it will be based on two volumes of Le Ly Hayslip’s autobiography (adapted by Stone), and will deal with what Stone called the Vietnamese woman’s “personal odyssey from the 1950s through the 1980s, from peasant to guerrilla fighter to beggar and hustler, to her relocation to the United States and transformation into an American housewife.” Shooting is set to begin in the Far East in September; the film will feature an unknown lead who has not yet been selected. This will be the third Vietnam film for Stone, who commented, “John Ford made Westerns, I make Vietnamers.”
