PREP NOTES : Reid to Coach Basketball at Mission Viejo

SAN DIEGO — Joe Reid, a former head coach at Estancia and Laguna Hills high schools, has been named boys’ basketball coach at Mission Viejo. Reid succeeds Bob Minier, who resigned in March.
Reid, 48, has taught drivers’ education, health and geography at Mission Viejo for the past 23 years. He was an assistant under Larry Sunderman at Estancia for seven seasons before becoming the school’s head coach for three years.
Reid later was the head coach at Laguna Hills for two seasons before resigning in 1989.
“I never wanted to get out of coaching, but I had seven children at home so it was unrealistic to go on coaching,” Reid said. “Now, three of my kids are teen-agers and they’re helping out at home.
“I’m really looking forward to teaching and coaching at the same school. I won’t have to jump in my car and go down the freeway to coach every day.”
