Martin to Make Main Event Debut Tonight

IRVINE — Joey Martin, a welterweight from Anaheim, makes his main event debut tonight in the monthly boxing program at the Irvine Marriott.

Martin (8-0, three knockouts) takes on Danny Perez of Paramount. Perez is 12-1 with seven knockouts. All of Martin’s fights have been at Irvine.

The Martin-Perez card replaces a scheduled main event that was to feature Jose Castro of Fountain Valley, but Castro pulled out late last week because of illness, according to promoter Roy Englebrecht.

This first of six scheduled bouts starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets--priced at $32, $27 and $22--go on sale today at 10 a.m. in the Grand Ballroom at the hotel.
