Two inmates escaped from work crews Friday in separate incidents, sheriff’s officials said.
They said both men were incarcerated at the minimum-security James A. Musick Branch Jail near Irvine and are not considered dangerous.
The first escape was reported shortly before 11 a.m., Sheriff’s Lt. Richard J. Olson said. David Orland Campbell, 30, of Laguna Beach escaped from a work crew along Jamboree Road in the Back Bay area of Newport Beach.
Campbell, who was in jail for a parole violation and possession of stolen property, was scheduled for an August release, Olson said.
Two hours later, Jose Hector Ruizgomez, 19, of Santa Ana was working on the jail grounds when a supervisor reported him missing.
Ruizgomez was serving time for a drug violation and was due for release in December.
Campbell is described as 6 feet tall and 140 pounds, with brown hair and hazel eyes. Ruizgomez is described as 5 feet, 7 inches and 150 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
Sheriff’s officials said they are also looking for a burglary suspect who reportedly escaped about midnight Saturday from Musick. Cuong Van Nguyen, 19, of Santa Ana was described as about 5 feet, 6 inches and 140 pounds.
Olson said that when escaped inmates are caught, they are charged with felony escape and moved to a maximum-security jail.
