La Verne : Water Rates Going Up
Beginning Oct. 1, residents will pay an additional 27 cents per thousand gallons of water they use.
With the new rates, the average bimonthly bill, based on an approximate usage of 30,000 gallons, will go from $73.45 to $81.55.
City Council members complained Monday about Metropolitan Water District rate increases but decided that after five years without an increase, the city must pass along the costs to water customers.
Council members voted to start the increase in the fall, after high-usage summer months.
Meanwhile, at Councilman Thomas R. Harvey’s suggestion, the city will study the possibility of selling its water department to a private company to build its cash reserve.
City Manager Martin R. Lomeli said a committee of council members and city staff should report to the council in July.
