Azusa : Senior Housing Scrapped
A planned low-income senior housing project to be completed by 1993 at San Gabriel Avenue and Foothill Boulevard has been scrapped, Redevelopment Director Robb Steel said.
Councilman Anthony Naranjo said the project was canceled because two other senior complexes in the city, Heritage Park and Soldano Village, are not filled. He said the council thought that a new facility would only cause further hardship to the existing complexes.
Planning for the project had been underway for about nine months, and four developers were vying for the contract to begin construction on what would have been the city’s only subsidized low-income senior housing.
City officials said they will look into the possibility of subsidizing Heritage Park and Soldano Village.
No other use has been determined for the vacant city-owned land on the northeast corner of San Gabriel and Foothill.
