A 70-year-old Sun Valley woman was killed Saturday when she was struck by a hit-and-run driver as she was weeding her lawn, Los Angeles police said.
The victim, identified as Luba Vartapetian, was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident at 10561 Art St., Officer Ray Messerly said.
Witnesses said the woman was working in her yard, alongside the street about 11:40 a.m., when she was struck by a 1970s-era blue Ford driven by a man in a tuxedo, Messerly said. The man, who was still being sought, fled the scene.
Witnesses told police that two children were passengers in the car, which had an older blue and yellow California license plate.
