Ventura police officers Sunday arrested a man suspected of trying to rob a gas station attendant at gunpoint.
The Shell gas station clerk told police that he was threatened shortly after 1 a.m. by two men wearing dark clothes, one armed with a shotgun. The unidentified clerk told police that the men fled after they attempted to force open the door of his locked booth at 2099 E. Harbor Blvd.
Police officers searched the Pierpont Boulevard area and chased the two men into the yard of a private home. One man was arrested, but his partner eluded police.
Officers recovered a shotgun, hunting knife and clothing worn by the would-be robbers, authorities said.
Sean Castillo, 24, of Ventura was booked into County Jail on suspicion of armed robbery and assault with a deadly weapon in connection with the gas station robbery. Castillo was being held in lieu of $10,000 bail.
