Gustave Schirmer IV, 73, member of the prestigious G. Schirmer Inc. classical music publishing family. Schirmer began as an actor and switched to managing and directing, handling Broadway productions of “Pal Joey,” “Wonderful Town” and “Guys and Dolls.” He was a pioneer in directing and producing summer stock productions built around big name performers, including Kay Ballard and Jack Cassidy in “Gypsy,” John Raitt in “Carousel” and Dorothy Collins in “South Pacific.” Moving to Los Angeles in 1972, Schirmer became a booking and casting director. On Wednesday in Culver City of renal failure.
