Bobby Rahal solidified his standing as the favorite in the Miller Genuine Draft 200 Indy car race by setting a track record in qualifying on the one-mile Wisconsin State Fairgrounds Speedway oval at West Allis, Wis.
The PPG-IndyCar series points leader, driving a 1992 Lola powered by a Chevrolet Indy V8-A engine, turned a lap of 162.924 m.p.h. on a cool, sunny afternoon.
That beat the 162.323 Rick Mears had driven minutes earlier.
