Northwest to Eliminate 250 Management Jobs: Northwest Airlines said it is cutting 250 managers through job eliminations and early retirements. The reductions follow last week’s announcement that the Eagan, Minn., carrier will lay off 110 pilots as a cost-cutting move. “This action is necessary to enhance our competitiveness and our efficiency in a period of tremendous industry change,” said Barry Kotar, a Northwest senior vice president.
