Haphazard Balloting
In a May 31 article, you cited a record number of requests in Ventura County for absentee ballots for the primary election. Just think how many more there might have been had we all gotten our election materials. This is the first year that I voted as a Ventura County resident and I was shocked at the haphazard way in which the sample ballots (which contained the information and request form for an absentee ballot) were distributed. After raising a fuss with the secretary of state, I was allowed to pick up my materials on a Saturday.
I know of several other people who live in my area who either didn’t get their election materials or got them too late to request an absentee ballot. One person in the registrar’s office blamed the post office. Either way, the election process in Ventura County needs to be reformed before November.
