TRENTON, N.J. — A tearful Irene J. Seale pleaded guilty Tuesday to extortion and conspiracy in the fatal kidnaping of Exxon executive Sidney J. Reso and agreed to testify against her husband.
Later, Arthur D. Seale appeared in the same federal courtroom and pleaded not guilty to kidnaping and other charges. He is also likely to be charged with felony murder in state court, prosecutors said.
As he was escorted out in handcuffs and leg shackles, Arthur Seale, 45, was asked about his wife’s decision.
“Just tell her I love her,” he said.
Irene Seale, also 45, signed the agreement with U.S. Atty. Michael Chertoff on Friday, one week after the couple’s arrest.
