Labor Party Wins in Israel

In rejoicing over the election victory of Rabin and the Labor Party, Lerner makes a relevant point and misleads with a wild exaggeration about the American Jewish community.
The Israeli election certainly is a demonstration of that nation’s vital democracy and of its people’s determination to move the peace process forward.
Lerner’s claim, however, that American Jews are led by “fund-raisers and large donors” who have not supported the peace process is rank nonsense. Every poll done on American Jewish leadership over the last years has shown a wide variety of views with a majority supportive of peace negotiations. Furthermore, an examination of Jewish Federation leadership across the United States clearly demonstrates a feisty democracy of views.
Lerner sadly allows his rhetoric to get the best of his grasp on reality.
