Ken Martinez has resigned as the girls’ cross-country and boys’ track coach at Channel Islands High to accept a coaching and teaching position at Aloha High in Beaverton, Ore.
Martinez, 27, will coach the boys’ and girls’ cross-country teams and the distance runners during the track season at Aloha. He will continue to teach English, the subject he taught at Channel Islands.
Myra Bemis, 33, a math teacher and a girls’ assistant track coach last season at Channel Islands, will replace Martinez as girls’ cross-country coach. A replacement for the boys’ track position has not been named.
Martinez, who competed in cross-country and track at Simi Valley High and Moorpark College, led the Channel Islands girls to fifth-place finishes in the Southern Section I-AA Division cross-country final the past two seasons.
