Jerry L. Modin, associate producer on the “Family Feud” game show, has died at a Burbank hospital. He was 53.
A resident of Burbank, Modin died Thursday of heart failure, according to his wife, Janice Modin.
Born in White Salmon, Wash., Modin earned a bachelor’s degree from Concordia Teachers College in River Forest, Ill., and taught junior high and high school briefly before his interests shifted to the entertainment field. After graduating from the American Academy of Dramatic Arts in New York City, he came to Los Angeles in 1971 to pursue an acting career. However, after being a contestant on two game shows, he was hired in 1975 as an assistant on a game show called “Give ‘N’ Take.” Modin later became contestant coordinator and most recently worked as associate producer. During his career, he worked on several other game shows including “The Neighbors,” “The $1,000,000 Chance of a Lifetime” and “Classic Concentration.”
In addition to his wife of 23 years, Modin is survived by his parents Verner and C. Arlene Modin of Anderson, Calif.; brother, Mike Modin of Vacaville; and sister, Carolyn Hawk of Santa Ynez.
A graveside service is scheduled for 9 a.m. Monday at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, in the Hollywood Hills. Valley Funeral Home in Burbank is handling the arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Modin’s name to Actors & Others for Animals.
