KNBC-TV business reporter Doug Kriegel and cameraman Peter Garrow were forced to lie in a gutter and then robbed at gunpoint Monday after they had filmed an “ongoing success story” at 92nd Street and Broadway in South Los Angeles, police said.
“Community members had obtained financing and are rebuilding the mom-and-pop store” at that intersection, Kriegel said. He and Garrow were climbing into their van on a side street at noon when a man with “a very large .45 came up and said: ‘Throw all your valuables on the ground,’ ” the reporter said.
The bandit escaped with jewelry, watches and wallets with about $200, Kriegel said. “He told us to lie on the street out of sight of people on the sidewalk, and I thought it was an execution for sure,” Kriegel said. “I’ve just been spending all day since the robbery counting my blessings.”
