LOS ANGELES : School Administrators May Face Biggest Cuts

The Los Angeles Board of Education agreed Thursday to ask the district’s top administrators to make the largest sacrifice as negotiations begin to cut $247.3 million from employee salaries.
The plan, which would distribute pay cuts according to a graduated scale, was approved during a closed session.
One high-ranking district official said administrators making more than $90,000 a year are facing salary cuts of more than 14.5%. “It’s going to be a considerable amount of money,” said the official, who asked not to be identified. “There won’t be too many people making more than $100,000 before this is over.”
About 45 administrators make more than $90,000 a year. More than half, including Los Angeles Unified Schools Supt. Bill Anton, are under individual contracts. All are represented by the superintendent rather than by a bargaining unit.
