Dale Bunn, a former Cal State Fullerton quarterback and Titan assistant coach, will replace Pat Degnan as part-time assistant coach for quarterbacks and wide receivers at Cal State Northridge.
Bunn’s hiring completes Coach Bob Burt’s coaching staff for 1992. The season will be Bunn’s ninth as a collegiate coach.
Burt and Bunn worked as assistants at Fullerton under Gene Murphy from 1983-85 before Burt became coach at Northridge in 1986. Bunn was an assistant at Fullerton from 1983-90.
Bunn, 35, was a four-sport standout at Monrovia High, played quarterback and punted at Fullerton from 1977-78, pitched and played outfield in the Angels’ farm system from 1979-1981, and played one year in the Canadian Football League.
Four ballplayers from the region have been invited to play for an American team composed of high school all-stars in a tournament Sept. 1-7 in Seoul, Korea.
Brad Fullmer of Montclair Prep, David Lamb of Newbury Park, Kevin Nykoluk of Simi Valley and John Aguilar of Hart have been invited to join the team, which will play a series of games against high school all-star teams from Japan and Korea.
Area players who have competed in the games--called the Goodwill Series--include Dmitri Young of Rio Mesa High and Mike Lieberthal of Westlake.
