3 of the Complaints Came From Skunks

HOUSTON — A company has been ordered to pay $100,000 because its plant generated an odor that complainers said smelled like a thousand dirty gym socks.
County Court-at-Law Judge Hannah Chow imposed the fine after Eurecat U.S. Inc. pleaded no contest to charges of air pollution.
The smell was “bad enough to keep people inside their homes and postpone barbecues,” prosecutor Roger Haseman said.
Eurecat, which recycles catalysts for oil refineries, said it has invested $500,000 in the plant the last two years to try to decrease the odor and plans an additional $100,000 investment.
