Diamond Bar : Street Name Changed
In an attempt to unify the city through consistency, the City Council on Tuesday voted 4 to 1 to make Golden Springs Drive the only name of a road now known as Golden Springs Drive in one area and as Colima Road in another.
Golden Springs Drive runs from north Diamond Bar to Brea Canyon Road and then turns into Colima Road, which continues to the city’s western limit. About 40 businesses along Colima Road will have to n their addresses in response to the name change, which will go into effect in February.
Mayor Jay Kim, who dissented, objected to the timing and the cost. Kim said the council should wait and make changes along with address alterations to that area. The city is trying to get western Diamond Bar’s ZIP codes changed from Walnut to Diamond Bar to simplify the mail system. Kim also opposed spending about $6,500 to change street signs and for administrative costs.
Councilman John Forbing said he thinks it is important for the city’s identity for streets to have one name throughout the city.
