Downey : School Space Rental Rates Cut for Nonprofit Groups
- Share via
Rates for nonprofit groups that rent classrooms in the Downey Unified School District have been cut in half by the school board.
Those using school space for commercial purposes, such as Hollywood studios or businesses, will continue to pay $54 per hour per room for the first two classrooms and $30 per hour for others.
Nonprofit groups, however, will pay $27 per hour per room for the first two classrooms and $15 an hour for subsequent rooms.
The Board re-evaluated the fees in response to requests from a local private school that had asked for a price reduction, said Gary Orsinger, assistant superintendent. Volunteer organizations such as the Boy Scouts, Brownies and PTAs will continue to use the school for free, Orsinger said.
