Business operators concerned about the commuting problems of their customers and employees are being asked to join a coalition of local companies and government agencies.
The Westchester/LAX Transportation Management Assn. is looking for new members to work with a new slate of officers to help businesses meet the clean-air regulations set up by the South Coast Air Quality Management District.
The group is one of more than 80 transportation groups established since 1980 to help businesses deal with the large number of commuting employees and comply with local air-quality regulations.
AQMD requires all companies with more than 100 employees to develop strategies for encouraging employees to car-pool, bike, walk or ride the bus to work.
The Westchester/LAX group serves Westchester, El Segundo, Playa del Rey, Culver City, Inglewood, Hawthorne and Manhattan Beach.
