PRO FOOTBALL DAILY REPORT : RAMS : Coury’s Style a Hit with New England
- Share via
Dick Coury, the former Ram quarterback coach who is now offensive coordinator for New England, apparently has brought a kinder, gentler approach to the Patriots. And it’s clearly a hit with Patriot Coach Dick MacPherson.
“Anybody who knows Dick (Coury) knows his personality and what kind of family man he is and what kind of person he is,” MacPherson said. “And you see a lot of that in his offense, the closeness, the kindness and the perseverance everybody has.
“I think he has a history of being able to get along with people and making them understand just exactly what their role is and what they’re supposed to do.”
Coury, a former USC assistant and Cal State Fullerton head coach, took over the New England offense last year. The Patriots, 1-15 in 1990, improved to 6-10.
“I miss my family and friends, but career-wise it was a good move,” Coury said. “I’m still hoping to latch onto one of those (head coaching) jobs one of these days.”
