NRA’s New Ad Campaign
The NRA has been in existence for over 100 years and I have been a member all of my adult life. In all that time the NRA message has always been the same: “Defend your right to defend yourself,” not “buy more guns.”
The ad that Joe Hicks of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference finds so “unconscionable,” while dramatic, still holds with that tradition.
As for its effectiveness, I worked two gun shows last month, recruiting new members at the gate. At both shows people joined at five times the normal rate! But perhaps you are giving this ad more credit than it is due.
The TV images of the Los Angeles riots, people defending their homes after Hurricane Andrew, the Landers quake and the constant threat of an 8.0 quake in the L.A. area have done more than any ad the NRA could come up with.
We are adding 1,500 new members per day nationwide and will top 4 million by the ’94 elections. Politicians take heed!
