Staying Power: KNBC Channel 4, reversing its recent trend of cutting loose veteran news reporters, re-signed longtime news fixtures Jess Marlow and Vikki Vargas to new contracts on Thursday. Marlow, one of the deans of local broadcasting, reached a multi-year agreement to anchor KNBC’s 6 p.m. newscast and deliver commentaries on the station’s 5 p.m. newscast. Terms of the contract were not disclosed. Marlow started at Channel 4 in 1966, later moved to Channel 2 and then returned to KNBC in 1986. Vargas, who has been a reporter at Channel 4 since 1982, is the station’s Orange County bureau chief.
