PREP FOOTBALL : El Dorado Capitalizes on Turnovers to Defeat Troy, 28-7

PLACENTIA — El Dorado took advantage of two Troy fumbles and a blocked punt in the first quarter en route to a 28-7 nonleague victory Friday at Valencia High School.
El Dorado (2-0) nearly recorded its second consecutive shutout but gave up a 35-yard touchdown run to Larry Vasquez with 2:59 remaining in the game.
Quarterback Jim Beck led El Dorado, completing six of eight passes for 85 yards and two touchdowns. Beck ran for another touchdown.
The Hawks took a 7-0 lead when Beck hit Kevin Haynes on a seven-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. Andy Osborne set up the score with a fumble recovery on the 25-yard line.
El Dorado made the score 14-0 with Beck’s nine-yard run with 1:25 left in the first quarter. Brett Bryant had blocked a Brian Logan punt and the Hawks recovered on the Warriors’ 25-yard line.
The lead grew to 21-0 after El Dorado’s opening drive of the second half, as Beck connected with Jeff Moore on a 22-yard touchdown pass. Ryan Reyes scored for the Hawks on a 25-yard run late in the fourth quarter.
Vasquez led the Warriors (1-1) with 93 yards in 14 carries.
