LA PALMA — A head-on collision between two pickup trucks Wednesday injured six people, some of whom were thrown from the truck beds, police said.
The six people were taken to hospitals in La Palma, Long Beach and Orange with cuts and possible internal injuries, said Sgt. Mark Yokoyama.
Traffic investigators said they were having trouble finding witnesses to the 2:30 p.m. collision and did not know what may have caused the crash at Moody Street and Crescent Avenue.
Police said the two pickup trucks entered the intersection and collided, causing passengers to spill from the trucks. The injured ranged in age from 11 to 20 years old, Yokoyama said.
Investigators were trying to determine if one of the drivers ran a stoplight, which were in working order at the time of the crash, Yokoyama said. It was not clear from which directions the pickup trucks were traveling, or how fast they were going, Yokoyama said.
No one was immediately cited in connection with the collision, which happened on the city’s border with Cypress, the sergeant said.
Fire Department paramedics, shortly after the collision, began treating some of the injured as they lay in the street before transferring them to La Palma Intercommunity Hospital, Long Beach Memorial Medical Center and UCI Medical Center.
Police did not know the names of the injured nor their conditions late Wednesday.
