Fleming to Meet Tim Gullikson in Semifinal

Second-seeded Peter Fleming advanced to the semifinals of the Tennis Classic at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club on Friday with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Australian Ross Case.
Fleming will meet third-seeded Tim Gullikson, a 6-4, 0-6, 6-2 winner over Cliff Richey, today. In the other semifinal, top-seeded Tom Gullikson will meet Bob Lutz.
In doubles, Case and Lutz defeated Anand Amritraj and Fleming, 6-1, 6-4. They will meet the Gullikson brothers in the championship Sunday.
WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL
San Diego State’s 11-match winning streak ended with a 13-15, 10-15, 15-6, 15-8, 15-12 defeat to Fresno State in its Western Athletic Conference opener at Peterson Gym. The Aztecs are 13-13, 0-1. Gracie Schutt had 19 kills. The Bulldogs are 6-6, 1-0.
Point Loma Nazarene defeated Southern California College, 7-15, 15-5, 15-9, 15-7, at Golden Gymnasium to improve to 9-4, 3-1 in the Golden State Athletic Conference. Roberta Smith had 15 kills and three solo blocks to lead the Crusaders, who play host to Christ College Irvine tonight at 7:30 p.m. SCC is 4-10, 0-2.
UC San Diego dropped its opener to Menlo (11-3) in the Mizuno Invitational at Triton Gym, with a 15-5, 15-9, 14-16, 15-8 loss. Junior outside hitter Laura Kranz led UCSD (4-9) with 18 kills. Rhoxanne Morris led Menlo with 14 kills. UCSD plays at 4 p.m. and 8 tonight against UC Santa Cruz and La Verne.
WOMEN’S SOCCER
USD was stretched to two overtimes before succumbing to visiting Cal Lutheran, 2-0. It was the third consecutive loss for the Toreros (3-6). Freshman midfielder Margaret Vestal scored in the first overtime and freshman forward Joey Allard scored in the second for Cal Lutheran (7-3).
