Whittier Christian Loses Halftime Lead, Game

WHITTIER — Camp Kilpatrick of Malibu overcame a 28-12 halftime deficit to defeat Whittier Christian, 32-28, in front of 1,200 at Whittier College.
Kilpatrick scored on its first possession as Jonathon Russaw carried the ball 58 yards, capping a four-play, 62-yard drive with 9 minutes 53 seconds remaining in the first quarter.
But the Heralds answered with three consecutive touchdowns. The third came on an 11-yard run by Aaron Meschuk, completing a six-play, 62-yard drive that gave Whittier Christian a 21-6 lead with 5:17 left in the second quarter.
It took the Mustangs only one play to cut into the Heralds’ lead, as Ronald Coleman hit Cecilo James on a 45-yard pass to make it 21-12 with 4:56 left.
Whittier Christian’s final score came on a 31-yard run by Meschuk, giving the Heralds a 28-12 lead at the half.
The Whittier Christian offense failed to score in the second half, but James and Russaw helped Kilpatrick score 20.
