NATION IN BRIEF : COLORADO : Probe of Jury Leak in A-Plant Case Urged

A federal judge asked the Justice Department to investigate possible criminal violations in connection with the release of a secret grand jury report on the Rocky Flats nuclear weapons plant near Denver. The special grand jury that probed environmental crimes at the plant sought indictments against government employees and operator Rockwell International Corp., but were rebuffed by prosecutors. Jurors then spoke to several news organizations in Denver expressing their displeasure that no indictments came out of their work. Earlier this year Rockwell pleaded guilty to 10 charges of violating federal hazardous waste laws and agreed to pay an $18.5-million fine over its management of the Rocky Flats plant.
