STONE: “MOM’S.” Carl Stone, computer-assisted electronics. New Albion NA 049 CD. The most recent piece on this disc, “Banteay Srey,” is a disappointing New Age meditation on a breathy scale. The more active title cut and “Gadberry’s,” however, are classic expositions of Stone’s mastery of sample manipulations, in terms of both technical and musical transformations, clearly directed. “Shing Kee” struggles toward Schubertian benediction through labored repetition, while “Chao Nue” develops dark intimations from a bland beginning.
