Proposition A
County Supervisor George Bailey extols the virtues of the latest Proposition A, the seemingly perennial proposition that calls for another half-cent sales tax increase. He claims that the tax doesn’t harm working people because it does not apply to gasoline.
He is dead wrong!
Not only does the sales tax apply to gasoline, it is a tax figured as a percentage of the price of gas, including the various state and federal taxes already imposed. In other words, the sales tax on gasoline is a tax on a tax!
Please, Mr. Bailey, don’t give us incorrect facts in your effort to sell us your snake oil tax.
