San Diego : Election Set for District 8
The San Diego City Council on Monday approved the date for a special election to fill the 8th District vacancy.
The election, scheduled for Feb. 16, will determine who will replace Councilman Bob Filner, elected Nov. 3 to the U.S. House of Representatives. The date was recommended by the city clerk’s office and approved 7 to 0. Mayor Maureen O’Connor and Filner were absent.
Filner submitted official notice of his resignation to the council Nov. 13. His resignation goes into effect Jan. 3.
The candidate receiving the most votes will serve until the next regular municipal election, which is scheduled for Sept. 21, City Clerk Charles G. Abdelnour said. The person elected on that date for District 8 will serve the remainder of the unexpired term through 1995.
Candidates have until Dec. 28 to file for the special election.
