Coach: Robert Rice (12th year).
1991: The Oilers won the Sunset League but lost in the first round of the Southern Section 4-A dual meet tournament. Senior heavyweight Mike Bolster was the Oilers’ top performer, finishing fourth at the State meet. He also won the Masters Meet and Section 4-A titles.
Key returners: Dondi Balisalisa, Sr., 112; Eric Escobedo, Jr., 171; Tito Ortiz, Sr., 160.
Key newcomers: None.
Outlook: The Oilers’ strength rests in the hands of three, three-year lettermen. Balisalisa (34-7 last year) was second at Sunset League finals. As a sophomore, Escobedo won the section 4-A individual title at 171 pounds, was sixth at the Masters meet and qualified for the State meet. He was 34-8 last season. Ortiz (31-5) was the league champion and finished sixth at section finals. Bolster’s graduation leaves Rice with a big hole to fill in the heavyweight slot. The Oilers figure to be challenged for the league championship by Santa Ana and Westminster.
