Transamerica Corp. announced Tuesday that its chairman, James R. Harvey, has retired as an executive officer of the company.
Harvey, 58, will continue as chairman of the board of directors and will become a company consultant.
“This has been in the works for some time,” company spokesman Dick Olsen said. “His future role as chairman will not involve acting as a member of senior management.”
Harvey will maintain an office at the company’s headquarters, Olsen said.
Harvey joined the San Francisco-based company in 1965.
