Two men were arrested during a routine traffic stop on the Antelope Valley Freeway after authorities discovered enough chemicals to manufacture about $2.1 million worth of methamphetamines in the trunk of their car, the California Highway Patrol said Tuesday.
Officer Ruben De Avila stopped a car that was weaving as it traveled south on the freeway near Crown Valley Road in Acton about 8:15 p.m. Monday, Officer Miguel Siordia said. After taking a sobriety test, Victorino Menera, 26, of Lennox was held on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, Siordia said.
In a subsequent search of the car trunk, De Avila discovered $5,000 cash, plastic containers filled with liquid and plastic trash bags filled with a powdery substance, Siordia said.
Menera and Juan Torres, 44, of Los Angeles, a passenger, were held on suspicion of possessing paraphernalia and chemicals to manufacture illicit drugs, Siordia said.
