Freight Train Derails When Man Flags It Down

LEETSDALE, Pa. — A man who tried to flag down a freight train caused 13 cars to derail when the engineer slammed on the brakes, authorities said. No injuries were reported.
The derailment Saturday knocked down power lines and briefly closed state Route 65 in Leetsdale, about seven miles northwest of Pittsburgh. Conrail offered a $500 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the man.
