Fun at Maxi’s Takes Minimum Effort

The hardest thing about going to Maxi’s Lounge is deciding where to sit. The room is so large that you have to ask: Do you want to relax and watch TV? Or check out the band on the Vegas-style stage? How about a game of pool?
Wherever you end up, you’ll find that the multilevel club is comfortable and well appointed, with upholstered chairs that swivel and rock so you can dance without leaving your seat (in case for some reason you don’t want to hit either of the two large dance floors). There are tables for large groups and tables for tete-a-tetes. The easiest thing to do at Maxi’s is have fun.
Wednesday is country-Western night; Thursdays through Saturdays, a Top 40 band and a disc jockey alternate from 8:30 till last call (midnight Thursdays, 2 a.m. Fridays and Saturdays; the Friday and Saturday cover charge is $5). Colored lights reflect off mirrors and chandeliers in the octagon-shaped room. Intense! There’s a full bar, of course, with Bud, Bud Light and Anchor Steam on tap.
From 5 to 8 p.m. Mondays through Fridays are happy hours, with a $3 buffet that includes boneless chicken breast in cream sauce and sliced roast beef. And Sundays are Big Band Days with music from 2 to 6. The cover’s $8, and the buffet is included.
Maxi’s Lounge at the Red Lion Hotel, 3050 Bristol St., Costa Mesa. (714) 540-7000 .
