After OCC’s recent 65-51 victory over Chaffey in the title game of the Coast Christmas Classic, Davis went over to look at the score book. As she opened it, OCC assistant coach Norma Leibfreid told Davis that she had scored 14 points. But that wasn’t why Davis was looking in the book. “I’m checking to see how many the girl I was defending had.”

For Davis, from Huntington Beach High, improved offense is a bonus. Defense is her specialty. “She the best defensive player I ever coached,” OCC Coach Mike Thornton said.

Davis averaged 12 points and seven rebounds in three games and was selected the tournament’s most valuable player.

Other top performers:

Cinnamon Basco, who scored 24 points and had 16 rebounds as Golden West, the fifth-ranked team in the state, defeated No. 10 Ventura, 91-72.

Fullerton’s Jennifer Little, who averaged 13 points over three games in the Coast Christmas Classic. She also had 15 rebounds in a single game.
