Rosa Parks, known as the “Mother of the Civil Rights Movement,” will be in the Antelope Valley next week at a series of engagements to celebrate Black History Month.
Parks’ arrest 37 years ago for refusing to surrender her bus seat to a white male passenger in Montgomery, Ala., triggered a wave of protests that reverberated throughout the country.
Parks will be introduced and honored at the Lancaster Performing Arts Center at 4 p.m. Sunday at 750 W. Lancaster Blvd. Tickets are $15 for general admission and $10 for students.
Later Sunday, an 80th Birthday Gala Dinner for Parks will begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Antelope Valley Inn Convention Center, 44055 Sierra Highway, Lancaster. Tickets are $40.
Parks will speak about her involvement in the civil rights movement at a free engagement at 4 p.m. Monday in Room 334 at Antelope Valley Community College, 3041 West Ave. K, Lancaster.
