BOYS’ BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Hambarian’s 3-Pointer Lifts Villa Park Over Orange

Danny Hambarian made a three-point shot with eight seconds remaining and Villa Park defeated Orange, 57-55, in a Century League game Friday at Orange.

Hambarian scored 13 points and Brian Robertson had 15 for the Spartans (7-14, 3-5 in league).

Pat Harris had 17 points for Orange (10-12, 5-3).

In other Century League games:

El Modena 57, Canyon 52--El Modena rallied after trailing by seven, 51-44, with about three minutes remaining in the fourth quarter. Casey Shine made two three-point shots, including one with about a minute remaining that gave the Vanguards a 54-52 lead. Shine and Aaron Aguilera each scored 12 points for El Modena (13-8, 7-1).

Tony Pappas had 14 points and John Werhas had 13 for Canyon (10-13, 1-7).

Santa Ana Valley 49, Foothill 29--Despite Foothill’s attempts at stalling, Santa Ana Valley routed the Knights. Jovan Robinson scored 11 points for Santa Ana Valley (13-10, 5-3).

In the Academy League:

St. Margaret’s 86, St. Michael’s 41--Damian Raibon had 22 points to lead St. Margaret’s (13-6, 5-1) past visiting St. Michael’s (3-13, 1-5).

Liberty Christian 96, South Gate Southeast Lutheran 48--Toby Curto and Dave Vaccaro each scored 16 points for visiting Liberty Christian (14-5, 6-1).

In the Express League:

Heritage Christian 57, Harbor City Gateway Christian 51--Ryan Drabek had 14 for host Heritage Christian (14-1, 10-0).

Downey Calvary Chapel 63, Claremont 62--Gavin Watson scored 38 points, including a late three-point shot, but Claremont (4-10, 2-9) fell short.

In the Olympic League:

Whittier Christian 80, Calvary Chapel 52--Jeff Rutter had 17 points for Whittier Christian (11-10, 6-4). Sabe Younger had 25 points for Calvary Chapel (8-13, 3-5).

Orange Lutheran 64, Ontario 45--Rod Sherman scored 16 points for Orange Lutheran (10-9, 5-4).

In the Garden Grove League:

Pacifica 59, Santiago 56--Chris Vlasic scored 16 points and Ramon Alliman had 14 points and 19 rebounds for host Pacifica (12-8, 7-5).

Rancho Alamitos 65, La Quinta 62--Manuel Metcalf made a free throw in the final seconds to help Rancho Alamitos pull away (12-11, 8-4). David Guzman had 21 points for Rancho Alamitos.

Kennedy 61, Bolsa Grande 54--Kennedy made 14 of 16 free throws in the fourth quarter to rally against Bolsa Grande. Pat Kunz had 20 points for Kennedy (21-3, 12-0).

In the Sunset League:

Ocean View 79, Santa Ana 48--Jimmy Harris had 20 points and Chad Pickens had 17 for Ocean View (13-8, 9-3).

Marina 55, Fountain Valley 51--Trailing by two with less than 10 seconds remaining, Fountain Valley’s Ara Petrosian missed a three-point shot. Marina got the long rebound and Andy Nieto made a layup in the closing seconds.

Petrosian scored 15 points for the Barons (11-11, 5-7). Nieto had 17 points for Marina (11-13, 4-8).

Huntington Beach 77, Servite 56--Tony Gonzales scored 20 points for the Oilers (22-3, 12-0), who made 21 steals, including 14 in the first half.

Edison 57, Westminster 46--Ben Beard had 20 points for visiting Edison (17-6, 9-3).
