AMERICAN WHO? Three years ago today, Orange County watched helplessly as 400,000 gallons of crude oil poured into the ocean from a grounded tanker named the American Trader, costing millions of dollars to clean up. Asked about the pending American Trader lawsuit (B1), one local government attorney joked: “The what? Never heard of it.” . . . Lifeguards say even surfers seem to have forgotten the spill that closed their favorite beaches for up to five weeks.
